Katherine D. Brandt
Kathie is a partner with Thompson Hine LLP. Previously she was the Partner-in-Charge of the New York Office and the firm wide chair of the Commercial & Public Finance Group. She focuses her own practice on the development and documentation of complex commercial loan transactions, where she frequently represents borrowers and issuers in a variety of industries. Kathie is admitted to the bar in the states of Ohio and New York.
Kathie was formerly the chair of the firm’s women’s initiative, Spotlight on Women®, in the New York office and currently is the chair of the United States Law Firm Group’s Women’s Committee. She has spoken on several panels sponsored by the National Association of Women Lawyers, the New York Women’s Banking Association, the Washington D.C. Women’s Bar Association and Conversations with Men on Wall Street®, regarding issues affecting women in the law, including effective techniques for advancing women to leadership roles.
Over the years, Kathie has been active with and taken leadership roles in a number of community and charitable organizations including the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation (trustee; chair of governance committee); the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center (board member); the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross (board member); Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America (board member; Chapter Performance Committee member), Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Northeast, Central and Southern Ohio (Board Chair, Executive Committee); Case Western Reserve University School of Law (dean selection committee, Dean’s Advisory Council member), Grove City College (Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee member) and the Cuyahoga County, Ohio Guardian Ad Litem program (advisory committee member and GAL).
Kathie has also been the recipient of a number of awards and honors including, Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Banking & Finance; New York Super Lawyers; Crain’s inaugural Fifteen Influential Women in Finance; 2018 Women WELDing the Way®calendar honoree; Case Western Reserve University School of Law Society of Benchers (alumni honorary); Grove City College Athletic Hall of Fame; Jack Kennedy Alumni Achievement Award; Cleveland YWCA Woman of Achievement and the Ohio State Bar Foundation Award for Community Service by Lawyers 40 and under.
Kathie received her law degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, cum laude, where she was a member of the Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree in engineering from Grove City College.
